It’s Not about You
The user experience and why it
matters to your website
by Bill Koch, Editor,
definingINSIGHTS
Twice a day, I let my son watch his
favorite TV show, Teletubbies. If you haven’t
experienced Teletubbies, imagine four brightly
colored characters who talk in one- or two-word
utterances, dance to silly music and have “televisions”
on their costumes. Every move they make is punctuated by
sound effects. To an adult, none of the action seems to

Profiting from the user experience
We all want to design websites and
applications that create profit for our company. But in
the rush to build the business, are we forgetting who
makes that business profitable? This month’s feature
article shows how smart companies take a step back
and learn about their users’ behavior before a single
line of code is created.
Last month, we asked how you deal
with a new job where happy hour seems to be part of your
job description. Your
responses gave some great practical tips on how to
balance your home life with the high life. This month,
we ask how you can convince customers to spend more
money on IT infrastructure security. Will security
always be seen as a “necessary evil?” We
need your best advice.
Please let me know which articles
are relevant to you—and your business. Take our 1-minute reader survey and you
could win a pair of 8x22 DigiCam Binoculars. We
invite your feedback.
